Filling the Idea Tank

This has been a fall of filling the idea tank.
I traveled, took classes, went to 2 exhibits and shared ideas with other creatives.
You know I traveled and I owe you some France photos.

Classes or workshops are a good way to fill up the idea tank. Classes I choose to take are usually in a technique or art form I wouldn't choose to do on my own. It helps to get out of a creative rut and there is a real possibility that the technique will inform future work.
A few days after getting back from France I took a workshop in Zentangle influenced hooking. I wasn't very good at it. But I got a new angle with which to approach surface design.

My resulting piece is nothing like Zentangle but uses its principles.

The next course I took was a 3 day intensive with Alice Vander Vennen with techniques and methods fairly new to me.
First of all we worked in fabric and found objects. I am a collector of flotsam and jetsam, and, I have done  a lot of sewing in my time but this course exposed me to a whole different level of collectors and fibre artists.  I am an amateur!
I did end up with 2 framed works at the end of the course.

Snug
Hankie Bay

Snug was the very first piece I did in the method taught to us. It is simple but effective.
Hankie Bay was a development of our 3rd method of putting base fabrics together.  The Hankie corners looked like Icebergs in the ocean and made me think of Glacier alley off of Newfoundland.  Although this is framed I am still not completely happy with it and will be taking it out to add more red to the left panel.
My take away from this course is the process of taking an idea from the beginning and following it right through to the very end. The end as in making it archival with framing and ready for a gallery.

The 2 exhibits I saw were Amanda McCavour at the Northumberland Gallery in Cobourg
View from Below
and Maud Lewis at McMichael Gallery.
I thoroughly enjoyed both shows and recommend seeing them. They are both on until January. Make a plan!

I've also had a chance to go to 2 Artist Meet ups at the AGN and find that it is a benefit to chat with other artists and see their works in progress as well as share ideas and concerns.

As a Creative Person it is important to get out of the rut and expose oneself to new sights, ideas and people. As an Introvert it is difficult but I never regret it.
Traveling doesn't need to be far away. Galleries can be just around the corner.
AND, of course, Nature is everywhere.

Get out and breathe in Nature.
I'll be back in a few weeks.
In the meantime you can find me on Instagram and facebook.
