A Fibre Artist

I want to blog more.

I have such a huge interior life and I really suck at imparting what goes on in my head to others.  I do not talk as much as I think.

I want to write about what I am thinking, what I am creating, what I am planning to create and how & why I make the creative choices I do.

I am trying to think of myself as a Fibre “Artist” which is a hard thing to do when low self-esteem is an issue at times.

Being an Artist is having a Job. The Artist has to do art even when there is no inspiration.

In order to be available when inspiration strikes all the tools of creating need to be honed. The needle needs to feel natural in the hand that is then connected to the brain that is having the inspiration.  The methods of manipulating fabric and string (or whatever) need to occur with a clear understanding of what the outcome will be. The idea has to be well formed and well thought out.

The Artist’s Job includes various things.
1.     Practising the methods of creation currently in the tool kit
2.     Finding new methods to create ideas
3.     Filling the idea tank by reading, taking classes, travelling, meeting others, watching, listening etc…
4.     Keeping the physical space to create ready for the inspiration to be fleshed out
5.      Stocking the creation larder. Having whatever will be needed nearby when it is needed.
6.     Being ready to immerse in inspiration. (If 1- 5 have been done 6 will come easily)
7.      Allowing time and space to fully realise the idea.
8.       Showing the world the finished product and all that entails.

It is not a typical 9 – 5 job.

Sometimes it looks like we seem to be doing nothing at all.
Other times we need to be reminded to eat and sleep.
Now that I have reached a time in my life where I am “Arting” full time I am loving it and I will keep on.

This is what I have just finished:
